GP One (from $99 a year, with GP Premium inside) adds hooks, layouts and the site library; wait for Black Friday if you can.

How to install and set up GeneratePress (free), step by step

    Find it and install

    Appearance, Themes, Add New Theme, search “GeneratePress”. Hover the card and click Install.

    Activate it

    When the install finishes, the same card shows Activate. Click it.

    Check it is the active theme

    Themes now lists GeneratePress first, marked Active, with a Customize button.

    Open the theme dashboard

    Appearance, GeneratePress opens Start Customizing: site identity, colours, typography and layout, each with an Open options button. Premium modules are listed below but locked.

    Layout has Container, Header, Primary Navigation, Sidebars, Footer and Blog. Everything here is in the free theme.

Is GeneratePress good in 2026?

Yes. In our clean-install test of 8 themes it was the lightest full-featured theme (20.2 KB on a post page), it is rated 4.9 out of 5 on WordPress.org from over 1,400 reviews, and it runs our site investmarathi.com.

Is GeneratePress Premium worth it?

If you want the Elements hooks, blog layouts and the site library, yes: GP Premium now comes in GP One, $99 a year for 1 site. For a simple blog the free theme is enough.

Does GeneratePress have a lifetime licence?

Yes. GP One Lifetime is $596 once for up to 100 sites. The yearly plans are $99 (1 site), $149 (10 sites) and $199 (100 sites).

When is GeneratePress cheapest?

During Black Friday. In 2025 GP One dropped from $149 to $99 for the first year; today GP One for 1 site is $99 at the regular price.

GeneratePress vs Kadence: which is faster?

GeneratePress: 20.2 KB against Kadence’s 54.5 KB on our clean-install post, and 53 KB against 392 KB of theme files on our live sites.

Does GeneratePress work with Elementor?

Yes, it works with Elementor, Beaver Builder and the block editor. It pairs especially well with GenerateBlocks.
