Why is there no 99-cent .com?
Every .com carries a fixed fee to the .com registry plus a 20-cent ICANN fee. A registrar that sells it for 99 cents loses money on year 1. So big registrars do the next best thing: a 1-cent or 1-rupee first year, tied to a 3-year order. GoDaddy’s cart showed exactly that.
In India the same deal is ₹1 for year 1, on 3 years. I checked it at Hostinger, GoDaddy India and BigRock. See the ₹1 domain guide.
The catches
- The renewal. 99-cent endings like .store and .click have a normal price many times higher. Look for the renewal line in the cart.
- One per customer. Namecheap’s cart marked .store “1 per household”.
- Fees. ICANN adds 20 cents a year to most endings. Indian buyers may also pay a bank fee for US dollar payments.
- Trust. Some cheap endings are used a lot by spammers, so email from them can land in spam more often. For a business, .com or your country ending is safer.

Questions people ask
Can I get a .com domain for $0.99?
Not for one year on 2 Nov 2026. GoDaddy shows .com for $0.01 in year 1, but only with a 3-year term: $45.99 in the cart. A plain 1-year .com was $12.99 at GoDaddy the same day.
Which domains cost 99 cents?
Namecheap’s 99 cent page (promo code 99SPECIAL) lists endings like .store, .link, .click, .space and .website. In the cart, .store was $0.98 plus a $0.20 ICANN fee. Number-only .xyz names (6 to 9 digits) are $0.99 every year at gen.xyz.
What does a 99-cent domain renew at?
Much more. These are newer endings with high normal prices. Check the renewal line in the cart before you pay. The number-only .xyz names are the exception: gen.xyz says they renew at $0.99.
Is the $0.01 GoDaddy .com a scam?
No. It is a real cart price, but the first year is the only cheap one. You pay $45.99 for 3 years, and it renews at $22.99 a year.
When are 99-cent domain sales?
The biggest come in Black Friday week. In 2025, Namecheap sold .store, .online and .site for $0.48 from 21 to 28 November, and Dynadot sold .help and .click for $0.99 from 24 November to 2 December.
How I checked these prices
I am Pritam Sonone. I build and look after WordPress websites, and I buy domains for my own sites. On 2 Nov 2026 I searched a test name at each registrar, added it to the cart and wrote down the price, the term and the renewal line. I took a screenshot of each cart and stopped before paying, so I have not bought these exact deals. Past offers come from saved copies of BigRock’s homepage on the Wayback Machine, Namecheap’s own press release, GoDaddy India’s social posts, and Michael Cyger’s public list of Black Friday 2025 domain deals. Hostinger links on this page are affiliate links. We earn a small fee if you buy, at no cost to you. It never changes the prices shown.
