Website Development Cost in India (2026)
What a website really costs to build and to run, in plain rupees.
Affiliate links: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes our verdicts.
a 5-page business website costs ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 to build in India, a larger site ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh. Running it costs far less, about ₹7,086 for 4 years of hosting, but renewals cost more from year 2.
A small website for a shop or business costs about ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 to make in India. A bigger one, with 8 to 16 pages, costs ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh. If you make it yourself, you only pay to keep it online: about ₹7,086 for four years.

People search for this in many ways: website development cost in India, website making cost, website design charges or web development price. They all mean the same thing: what you pay to get a website made and keep it running.
I build WordPress websites for a living, and I checked every price on this page myself in October 2026. Below, I explain what a website is made of, the ways to build one, and why one person pays ₹5,000 while another pays ₹5 lakh.
What is a website?
A website is a set of pages that anyone can open on a phone or computer. Think of it as a shop on the internet. Like a real shop, it needs an address, a place to stand, and things inside it.
Here are the parts every website has, in simple words.
| Part | What it means | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| Domain | Your website’s address, like yourshop.com. People type it to find you. | Free for the first year with many hosting plans. After that, about ₹1,769 a year for a .com. |
| Hosting | A computer that stays on all day and keeps your website online. You rent space on it, like renting a shop. | About ₹100 to ₹450 a month for a small website. |
| SSL | The small lock icon in the browser. It keeps visitors’ details safe. | Free with most hosting. |
| WordPress or code | The tool used to make the pages. WordPress is free software. Code is written by a developer. | WordPress is free. Code costs the developer’s time. |
| Theme | The look of the website: colours, fonts and layout. | Free, or about ₹7,732 to ₹11,093 a year for a paid one. |
| Content | Your words, photos and videos. | Free if you write it. Extra if someone writes it for you. |
| An email at your own address, like hello@yourshop.com. | Comes free with many hosting plans. | |
| Care | Updates, backups and safety checks after the site is live. | Free if you do it. Our care plan is ₹2,999 a month. |
How does a website work?
- Someone types your address, like yourshop.com.
- The address points to your hosting, the computer where your website is kept.
- That computer sends your pages back, and they open on the screen.
- The lock (SSL) keeps this safe, so nobody in between can read it.

Tap a part to see what it does:
Your address, like yourshop.com. You rent it every year. It tells the internet where to find your website. Example: a .com costs about ₹1,769 a year after the first year.
The internet’s phone book. When someone types your address, DNS looks up which server holds your website. It comes free with your domain.
A computer that is always on and keeps your website files, photos and database. This is the main yearly cost of a small website.
The small lock in the browser. It scrambles the data so nobody can read it on the way. Most hosts give it free, and Google prefers sites that have it.
The free software that builds and manages your pages, like an app on your hosting. You add pages and posts without writing code.
Emails like hello@yourshop.com. They use your domain but are handled by a mail server, often included with hosting.
So every website, big or small, pays for two things: the address (domain) and the space (hosting).
Ways to make a website
How you make the website, and who makes it, changes the price the most. These are your choices.
1. A website builder
You pick a design and drag things where you want them. Some builders, like Hostinger’s AI Website Builder, even make a first version from a few lines you type. No coding needed. It is the fastest way to start, but you cannot change as much as with WordPress.
2. WordPress
WordPress is free software that runs a huge number of websites, including ours. You pay only for hosting, and for a paid theme if you want one. It works for business sites, blogs, news websites and online shops. You can change hosts or designers any time, and nobody can lock you in.
3. Custom code
A developer writes the website line by line. You can have anything you want, and it can be very fast. But every small change needs the developer again, so it costs more to make and to keep.
4. Vibe coding (AI makes it for you)
“Vibe coding” means telling an AI tool what you want, in normal words, and it writes the website for you. Lovable and Bolt are two popular tools. Both have free plans, and their Pro plans cost $25 a month each (about ₹2,374 before tax), as shown on their pricing pages in October 2026.
I like these tools for quick tests and simple apps. For a real business website, someone who knows websites should still check it for safety, speed and Google, because the AI can miss things.
5. Pay someone to make it
A freelancer is one person who builds websites. An agency is a company with a team. In India, freelancers usually charge ₹1,000 to ₹3,000 an hour, and small agencies ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 or more for a basic website, says GoDaddy India’s cost guide. It costs more, but you do not have to learn anything.
Here is the same comparison in one table.
| Way | Skill you need | Cost to make | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website builder | None | Comes with hosting, about ₹7,086 for 4 years | A quick, simple website |
| WordPress (you make it) | A little | About ₹7,086 for 4 years of hosting | Business websites and blogs on a small budget |
| Vibe coding (Lovable, Bolt) | A little | $25 a month while you build, plus hosting | Tests, small tools, simple apps |
| Freelancer | None | ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 for a small website | A ready website at a fair price |
| Agency | None | ₹50,000 and more for bigger websites | Bigger websites with more help |
| Custom code | None (you hire) | ₹2 lakh and more | Special features and full control |
Cost by type of website
Different websites need different amounts of work. These are the usual prices in India right now.
| Type of website | Usual cost to make | What makes it cost more |
|---|---|---|
| One-page website | ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 | More design, more writing |
| Business website (about 5 pages) | ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 | Custom design instead of a ready template |
| Blog or news website | ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 | Many categories, ads, speed and Google setup |
| Bigger business website (8 to 16 pages) | ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh | Custom design, forms, links to other software |
| Online shop | ₹10,000 to ₹1 lakh or more | Many products, online payments, delivery options |
| Big custom website or app | ₹2 lakh to ₹25 lakh or more | User accounts, dashboards, many connected systems |
A logo usually costs ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 more. Writing, product photos and setting up online payments are often charged separately.
What changes the price?
- How many pages. More pages, more work.
- Ready design or custom design. A ready template is cheap. A design made only for you costs a lot more.
- WordPress or custom code. WordPress and builders are cheaper to make and to change.
- Extra features. Online payments, bookings, logins and more than one language all add work.
- Who writes the content. If you give the words and photos, the price goes down.
- Safety and speed. Backups and protection cost a little but save a lot later.
- Google (SEO). Basic setup is often included. Ongoing SEO work is a separate monthly cost.
- Who makes it. The same website can cost ten times more from one maker than another.
Keeping your website safe
A safe website does not cost much. Fixing a hacked one costs far more, so it is worth doing from day one.
| What you need | What it costs |
|---|---|
| The lock icon (SSL) | Free with most hosting |
| Automatic backups | Weekly on Hostinger Premium, daily on bigger plans |
| A security plugin (Wordfence) | Free, or $149 a year (about ₹16,696 with GST) for the paid version |
| Cleaning a hacked WordPress website | Our fixed price is ₹4,999 |
What it costs every year
Making a website is a one-time cost. Keeping it online is a yearly cost. Here is what a small WordPress website on Hostinger costs. I read these prices in Hostinger’s India cart in October 2026. They include 18% GST.
| What you pay for | First year | Later years |
|---|---|---|
| Address (.com domain) | Free with a yearly plan | ₹1,769 a year |
| Hosting (Hostinger Premium, 4 years) | ₹7,086 for all 4 years, with code DIGITALPRITAM10 | ₹6,358 a year when it renews |
| Email and SSL | Included | Included |
| Theme | Free | Optional, ₹7,732 to ₹11,093 a year |
| Page builder (Elementor Pro) | Optional | ₹6,723 a year |
Watch out for renewal. The first years are sold at a discount. After that, hosting costs the normal price. That is why buying four years at once, during a sale, saves the most money.

Questions people ask
How much does a website cost in India in 2026?
About ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 for a small business website, ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh for a bigger one, and ₹60,000 or more for a custom online shop. If you make it yourself on WordPress, you pay about ₹7,086 for four years of hosting.
How much does a 5-page website cost?
₹5,000 to ₹30,000 from a freelancer or small agency. The price depends on the design and who writes the content.
Is GST added to the website cost?
Yes. Website design and hosting both have 18% GST in India, when the seller is GST-registered. Always ask if a price includes GST.
Can I make a website for free?
You can use free software like WordPress. But to put the website online, you still need a domain and hosting. Free addresses exist, but they do not look good for a business.
Is vibe coding cheaper than hiring a developer?
For a first test, yes. $25 a month on Lovable or Bolt can make a working first version. For a real business website, you still need someone who knows websites to check it and look after it.
How I got these numbers
I am Pritam Sonone. I build and look after WordPress websites, and I have spoken at WordCamp, the WordPress community event. Hosting and domain prices on this page come from Hostinger’s India cart, which I checked on 23 and 28 October 2026. Theme and plugin prices come from their official pages. Lovable and Bolt prices come from their own pricing pages. Market prices for having a website made come from GoDaddy India’s cost guide, the published price lists of Foduu and Zauca, and Codevibe’s online shop cost guide, read in October 2026. We earn a small commission if you buy hosting through our links. It never changes the prices shown here.
