Yes, students can get a free domain for one year through the GitHub Student Developer Pack. Today it has three domain offers: a free .me from Namecheap (plus an SSL certificate), a free domain from Name.com (endings like .dev, .app and .live), and a free .tech.
I checked each offer on the GitHub Student Pack page and Namecheap’s student site on 2 Nov 2026. All three are free for the first year, then renew at the normal price.

Who can get the GitHub Student Pack?
You need a free GitHub account and proof that you study at a school, college or university. GitHub checks it, usually with your school email or a photo of your student ID. Once you are approved, all the offers unlock at once.
How to claim your free domain, step by step
- Make a free account on GitHub.
- Go to the GitHub Student Developer Pack page and apply as a student.
- Wait for GitHub to approve you.
- Open the pack, find Namecheap, Name.com or .TECH, and follow its link.
- Search for your name, pick it, and check out at $0.
For the Namecheap .me, the student site is nc.me. It is still live today.
Which one should you pick?
- .me: great for a personal site or portfolio, like yourname.me. It comes with a free SSL too.
- .dev: made for developers. It needs HTTPS, which most hosts give free.
- .tech: good for a tech project or start-up. Renewal is high, so plan ahead.
- You can claim more than one, because they come from different companies.
After the free year
These are free for 12 months. After that, you pay the normal price, or you let the domain go. If you want a .com that stays cheap, Porkbun charges $11.81 every year, and Spaceship $9.68 in year 1. See cheapest .com domain.
