Free Domain Without Hosting? 5 That Still Work

Yes, as a subdomain. is-a.dev, eu.org, DigitalPlat FreeDomain, GitHub Pages and Cloudflare Pages are all free and live in 2026. You do not own the main name, so for a business a real domain from about $2 is safer.
Yes, you can get a free domain without hosting, but it will be a subdomain, like yourname.is-a.dev. Five options still work in 2026: is-a.dev, eu.org, DigitalPlat FreeDomain, GitHub Pages and Cloudflare Pages. Freenom, the old favourite, is no longer free.
I checked each project’s own page on 2 Nov 2026. A subdomain is a name inside someone else’s domain. It costs nothing, but you do not fully own it.

1. is-a.dev
is-a.dev gives developers a free name like pritam.is-a.dev. You ask for it by adding a small file to their GitHub project (a pull request). When I checked, the last request had been approved 45 minutes earlier, so it is very much alive. The project’s rules now also cover non-developer sites.
2. eu.org
eu.org has handed out free names since 1996. You sign up, then ask for a name like yourname.eu.org. You need DNS servers ready (Cloudflare’s free plan works). The site says plainly that no support is given, and requests are not instant.
3. DigitalPlat FreeDomain
DigitalPlat is a free project on GitHub with over 200,000 stars. It offers names ending in .dpdns.org, .us.kg, .qzz.io, .xx.kg and .qd.je. You sign up on its dashboard, which was live when I checked, and point the name to any DNS you like.
4. GitHub Pages
GitHub Pages hosts a website for free at yourname.github.io. GitHub’s own limits: the site can be up to 1 GB, with about 100 GB of visits a month. It is not allowed for online shops or other sites mainly for selling. Good for a portfolio, notes or project docs.
5. Cloudflare Pages
Cloudflare Pages hosts a site free at yourproject.pages.dev. The free plan allows 500 builds a month, 100 projects and 20,000 files per site, according to Cloudflare’s docs. You can add your own domain later.
What happened to Freenom?
Freenom used to give free .tk, .ml and .ga names. Today a .tk search on Freenom asked for EUR 8.22. It is no longer a free option.
The downsides of a free subdomain
- You do not own it. If the project closes, your address goes too.
- Less trust. Customers and Google trust their own .com or .in more.
- Email is hard. Most free subdomains cannot easily get an email like you@yourname.
- Rules can change. Freenom shows how a free offer can end.
The cheapest real domain (from $2.06)
A real domain costs less than most people think. The cheapest I found today was a .xyz at Spaceship for $2.06 (₹196) for the first year, renewing at $13.97. A .com was $9.68 (₹919).
