Linode review 2026: Akamai Cloud with Mumbai and Chennai regions
Linode, now Akamai Cloud: Shared CPU prices in rupees, three India regions, cheap transfer and what WordPress users should know.

Linode is now sold as Akamai Cloud. A Shared CPU Linode with 2 CPUs and 4 GB is $24 a month (about ₹2,689 with 18% GST), with 4 TB of transfer and the same price in India. It has three India regions (Mumbai, Mumbai 2 and Chennai) and the cheapest overage here at $0.005 per GB. Servers are unmanaged, and Trustpilot users rate it 2.3.

Billing, bandwidth and extras
What the monthly price does not show.
Linode bills by the hour, rounded up to the next hour, and invoices on the first of the next month. A powered-off Linode is still billed; delete it to stop paying. There is no term.
Shared plans include transfer (1 TB to 20 TB by size). Past that, egress costs $0.005 per GB, half what DigitalOcean and Vultr charge. Newer dedicated G8 plans include no transfer at all.

India and Asia regions
Linode’s public region list shows three India regions: Mumbai (ap-west), Mumbai 2 (in-bom-2) and Chennai (in-maa), plus Singapore and Singapore 2. All three Indian regions offer Linodes and backups at the standard price, so Linode is a good fit for a site with mostly Indian visitors.

Managed or unmanaged: what a WordPress beginner gets
Linode sells an unmanaged server: you get root access and a blank Linux machine. Installing the web server, PHP, the database, SSL, security updates, backups and fixes is your job. That is fine if you know Linux. If you just want a fast WordPress site, pick one of these instead:
- A managed layer on top: Cloudways runs WordPress for you on DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS or Google Cloud servers, with Indian regions.
- A free panel: CloudPanel, Coolify or a one-click WordPress image does the install, but updates and security are still on you.
- A VPS with a simpler panel and rupee billing: Hostinger VPS has an India location and one-click templates.
