WordPress cache checker: is your page cache actually working?

Enter your site. We load it three times, read every cache header and tell you in plain words whether visitors get cached pages or hit PHP every time.

Reads public pages only. Nothing is stored. What we read

  • About 10 seconds
  • Fresh vs cached speed
  • Fix for every finding

Why a working cache matters

Installed is not the same as working

A cache plugin can be active while every visitor still hits PHP: a cookie, a query string, a conflicting plugin or a host setting is enough. The only proof is the header on a second visit.

The biggest single speed win

On our plugin-free lab site the home page answered in 321 ms. With LiteSpeed Cache’s page cache on, the same page answered in 49 ms. No other setting comes close for the effort.

How to fix it

⚡
On a LiteSpeed host (Hostinger, most Indian shared hosting): install LiteSpeed Cache, turn on Cache, purge all, then check again. On Nginx or Apache hosts: WP Rocket or FlyingPress.

Run one page cache only. Two caches fight each other and serve stale pages. Then switch on Browser Cache and compression in the same plugin.

Cache plugin says on but the check still fails? (the usual causes)
A cookie on every page

Popup, session, analytics or WooCommerce plugins that set a cookie for guests make the cache skip the page. Find the cookie name in the result above and stop that plugin on normal pages, or add the cookie to the cache plugin’s ignore list.

Cloudflare in front, origin cache off

cf-cache-status: DYNAMIC is normal. Cloudflare caches images and CSS, not HTML, unless you add a Cache Rule or APO. Your server cache still has to work underneath.

Two caches at once

LiteSpeed Cache plus WP Rocket, or a host cache plus a plugin, often cancel each other. Keep the one that matches your server and remove the other completely.

no-cache headers from a plugin

Security, membership and some form plugins send Cache-Control: no-cache on every page. Look for the setting in that plugin, or ask your host which plugin sends it.

What we read

Three loads of your home page plus one stylesheet, the way a browser loads them.

Hostinger and most Indian shared hosts. A second visit must say hit.

cf-cache-status: DYNAMICCloudflare

DYNAMIC is Cloudflare’s default: it does not cache HTML unless you add a rule or APO.

Age: 120Any cache

An Age header means a cache answered, not WordPress.

x-qc-cache, x-kinsta-cache, x-cacheHost and CDN layers

QUIC.cloud, Kinsta, WP Engine, Varnish, Nginx, SiteGround, Bunny, Sucuri all have their own header.

Performance optimized by WP RocketPlugin footer comment

WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache, FlyingPress and others sign their cached pages.

Set-Cookie on the home pageCache blockers

A cookie set for anonymous visitors usually stops the page from being cached.
